So, after working on my fiberglass door, the results are not ideal. What I would like to know is if I can get a different gel stain (one that would help to match the door with the wood surrounding it) and stain over what is already done? Any one out there tried it, know what works what doesn’t, or has any advice….I would be grateful for the info.

Yes, you can.
A couple of suggestions, I have, do not apply the stain in direct sun. Do not "dry" brush the new stain as you will find the new stain will lift the original color and make a mess. Try not to darken too much as you will hide the original primer color which is intended to assist the overall wood look.
