Black Mold on Douglas Fir

share

Trying to beat the rainy season. Had new Douglas fir put up for deck railing. Just got it sanded down and it rains the next day. Now I’ve got black mold starting all over the place. I was hoping the moisture content would drop below 15% so I could put on a solid stain tomorrow. Can I stain over the mold?

  1. It is best to remove the mold with a deck stripper/cleaner, let dry and then stain. Most likely you have already stained so you will need to strip/clean and restain sooner.
