Exterior primer without a topcoat.

share

We primed the vinyl trim on our home but never got around to painting it before the winter hit. What will happen to these primed surfaces all winter without the protection of a topcoat? Will the paint chalk, yellow, or wash away over time? If we reprime in the spring, will we have any adhesion problems?

  1. It will surely fail from weather conditions, fading, peeling etc… probably in a short time (1-2yrs)… wash it in the spring (by hand with TSP and rags) and finish with a top coat, no extra priming required… BTW most factory painted vinyl trim does not really need any priming before top coating, just one heavy coat of High Quality Finish Exterior Grade House Paint (oil or acrylic), applied correctly… but now that you have already primed it… oh well…
