I just finished pulling down the old paper (at least 20 years old) and most of the glue stayed behind. So did the mold and mildew. What is the best way to address this and prep the walls for paint. This is in a small bathroom…..

Wash with a strong cleaner to remove the remaining glue (as much as you can) and some mold, rinse well. Now sponge on a 50-50 mix of bleach and water to kill any remaining mold. Allow to dry. Now you can prime (2 coats) and paint. Use a shellack primer, this will stick the best and hide any stains.
