Beadboard Porch Ceiling

share

I have a beadboard porch ceiling in good condition, but in need of a fresh finish. It looks like whoever installed it used a marine spar varnish, which is what I plan to use. What is the best way to prepare the surface? Sand off the varnish? Scraping doesn’t look like it would do much good as nothing is flaking.

  1. No just lightly wipe it down with rag and Lacquer Thinner… then simply reapply the Spar Varnish…

  2. Stripping isn't needed. A light sanding to remove any loose varnish plus increase adhesion and cleaning as Dave mentioned is all that is needed before recoating.
