I have recently had some renovations done in my bathroom. The contractors painted the bathroom ceiling with Behr paint (ceiling white) from Home Depot. Every time someone takes a shower the entire house smells like cat urine. I have lived in this house for 14 years and own no pets. (we have never owned a cat) The bathroom ceiling was newly installed green board. I know it doesn’t make logical sense and NO there is not a dead animal somewhere, or stray cat peeing on my bathroom ceiling. Does anyone know how this could be possible, and /or how to fix it?

The surface was not properly PRIMED … go back now and prime over the paint with a Pigmented Shellac Sealer Primer… then top coat again…
This is a reoccurring problem with some brands; Behr and Valspar in particular. Might have to choose a different brand after priming, Sherwin Williams ProMar 200 Zero or better should do the trick.
