I have painted my Merbau deck with a satin marine grade paint and now wish I had a gloss finish. My question is can I now paint a marine grade gloss over the satin?

Yes, but there are a few step before you can do this.
First step- pressure wash the deck. Allow 24 to 48 hrs to dry.
Next- you'll need to apply a primer. I like Binz water-based primer. You can roll this on or brush, your choice. If you choose to role use a 1/2 inch nap roller. Allow to dry for the recommended time, usually 1 to 2 hrs.
Final step- choose your paint and roll or spray the deck. I prefer rolling a deck as it seems to cover more evenly, especially if your using a high gloss product. But you will have to get in between the cracks with a brush before rolling out the deck. Use a 3/4 in nap for the final roll out. Good luck.
