I have a white painted brick fireplace and it’s really ugly. I would like to change the color but I don’t wont to paint it. I want to stain it. Can this be done?

NO…. stain needs to penetrate a surface to work… paint actually applies a film coating to a surface… If you want to stain it … you need to use ONLY special Floor Concrete Stain… but first you need to STRIP OFF all the old paint with a Stripper Product!
You could try a paint/glaze mix to tone the existing color. I agree with Dave that staining at this point won't work and stripping the paint off the brick is impossible or nearly impossible.
