There is a plastic cup that came with my airless sprayer and mounts to the frame at the intake part of the compressor frame. What is this used for?

I was wondering if using a vacuum sprayer, low volume low pressure sprayer could be used effectively on a outdoor wrought iron fence. Versus the typical airless sprayer. Would this save me a lot of paint and cut down on a lot of overspray? I think it would cut down

I recently painted my exterior using a 5 gal bucket and roller grid/screen. Worked wonderfully, never will use a tray again. But I’m wondering if there are any tricks or tips for cleaning the grid. There is a lot of paint dried on it. I used Dunn Edwards Endurawall elastomeric
