I have a 1950’s home with stained interior flush hardwood doors. I’d like the doors to be painted white for an updated look (and to match the trim) but am unsure if flush doors follow their own ‘finish rules’. Is there a preference that flush doors be stained instead of painted?

No not at all… this is a styling choice entirely up to you… be sure to prime before painting them… I like a Pigmented Shellac Sealer Primer (drys quicker) but Kilz (oil base) is OK too… then finish them with a Semi-Gloss High Quality Paint…
