Fresh cut pine lumber.

share

I was given some fairly fresh cut pine lumber to finish the interior of my shed – when can I stain or paint wash it? Does it have to go up and age first? It is 1×6 and 1×8 pieces. I had wanted to whitewash it and then put it up but I am not sure now about sealing, etc?

  1. The wood will need to dry out before it can be installed and painted. During the drying period the wood will shrink and possibly warp. Usually, wood is bound and put into a kiln, a type of oven, until it is less than 10% moisture content. You will need to simulate the same effect. So, let it dry out before install.
