The finish trim on our exterior entry doesn’t cover the interior sheet rock edge which is crumbling. Because of the way the house was built I’m not able to use a wider finish trim without going into a major rework. Can I use corner bead, mud it, then reuse the finish trim?

I will trust you on the issue of not using a wider trim, so yes, you can use a metal corner bead. I am concerned as to what you will nail/screw to to fasten the corner bead.
