My front door is stained dark and sealed with a clear coat of some kind. It has leaded glass side lights and transom, as well as, painted wood trim casing. I want to strip all the stained and clear coated wood and paint it all. My door is set in brick. I don’t want to damage the brick with stripper… What product would I use to strip stain and the clear coat?

Two choices;
1- Use a strong paint stripper to remove the clear coat. Then sand smooth and prime.
2- If the clear coat is in generally good condition this choice is better. Sand off and smooth any loose finish and remove any heavy areas. Prime with a good oil primer then paint.
