How to paint casement window sash that has been stained and varnished?

share

We have casement windows we would like to paint. They have been stained and varnished. After sanding them, is it best to use an oil based primer and then a latex paint. Is it good to put on two coats of paint? Thanks. I am painting just the sash.

  1. Use an oil base primer. Something that dries quick will work best, like Zinsser Cover Stain. Also use a latex paint. Dries fast so the windows can be shut sooner and is more resistant to the weather and temperature extremes that all windows must handle.
