I have a grey vinyl sided house with wide white fluted moldings. I want to paint my exterior doors to look like walnut wood. I know it is a layering process of paint colors, but don’t know which colors. I am an experienced DIY but don’t want to really mess up the front of my house! Any suggestions?

What you are referring to is called wood graining. This involves a base color (paint), a layer of stain applied and using a graining tool to move the stain around into a wood grain pattern. Let it dry then protect with a clear coat.
Wood graining isn't easy but with some practice it is doable. Check out Old Masters stains website, they have a good instruction manual that you can download. It has good details about this entire process.
