James Hardie Cement Fiber Lap Siding

share

I have brand new James Hardie Cement Fiber lap siding. I would like to know if it should primed before painting even though it comes pre-primed? I am concerned about the caulking that was used in between each lap, wouldn’t that need the coat of primer even if the boards may not? Also, In your opinion which is the “Best” exterior brand of paint to use on this type of siding?

  1. I still prime Hardie Board siding even though it is pre-primed. This way I know everything is perfect. The best primer I have found for Hardie Board is Zinsser 123 acrylic primer.

Any good exterior 100% acrylic satin paint can be used. The brands I like are Devoe, Benjamin Moore, Porter and Sherwin Williams. All of these brands have good paints as long as you choose their best line.
