I need to repaint my front door, but don’t want to add another coat of paint because I want to keep the ornate designs of the door. The only thing I can think of is removing the old layers of paint (3) and use a paint sprayer for a light coat. But that may not protect the door since it is exterior. What should I do instead?

Gee, painting over the "ornate designs" is standard practice… it only requires that you know how to brush and cut properly… removing paint is an unnecessary step… use a high quality product for your door like Sherwin Williams A-100, use a Gloss or satin finish for best durability… Good Luck!
