I have solid oak cabinets that I want to redo over but with a distressed look. Is it possible to take them to a almond color and how would you do it?

Do this by Antiquing them… a process that first applies a base coat color (over the Primed original surfaces-use Pigmented Shellac Primer)… choose the base coat color appropriately (almond?)… then next apply the glaze coat color, using whatever "distress" type applicator you like (rag, sponge, brushes, steel wool etc)… TIP: for best results use oil paint… but latex will also work… for both base and glaze coats… Google for "Antiquing Furniture"
