My daughter’s room has a yellow-sponged ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars you can only see at night which we will leave in tact. The wall color I want to change. I just painted over the stenciled flowers with a light, light yellowish stripe around the room and the walls are a mauve-ish pink.
I now want to paint the wall color to a semi-gloss white and put a stripe of chalkboard paint around the room.
Will one coat of white cover? I usually always use color – it’s been quite some time since I’ve painted white besides crown molding.

You should prime first. The white semi-gloss will have a hard time covering. You could use a flat white as the first coat then finish with your semi-gloss. The flat white paint will cover better than most primers.
