Oil paint over varnish on trim.

I have a house with original dark varnished interior trim and doors. What is the required prep for an oil based enamel finish?

  1. First lightly sand… then prime with either a Pigmented Shellac Sealer Primer (recommended for faster drying time) or oil base primer (try Kilz but only oil base)… then fill any holes or cracks with putty and/or spackle… then spot in those spackled repairs with more primer… then finish coat using a HIGH GRADE PRODUCT (Sherwin Williams Classic-99) but no need to use oil… acrylic will work better…
