I think it would look great if you painted it a dark color. Adding contrast would be great when the trim is simply white. In my house we have our exterior doors black on the inside also.
I would say that the interior color of the door should match the trim or wall color if you have carpet. If you have hardwood floors, it is OK to stain the door to match the floor color even if it is a darker color. This is also a matter of personal preference.
