Paint on kitchen cabinets still remain tacky weeks after repainting.

I repainted my kitchen cabinets to a gloss black latex. I have done three coats. I did wait the recommended time between coats. The cabinets still seem tacky when touched. Is there anything I can do about this. Maybe a type of sealer?

  1. In order to answer this question we need a bit more information. What type finish was on the cabinets prior to this coating application? What surface preparation was performed? Did you clean with a degreaser?

Based on your post, I will assume you did not clean the surface with a degreaser. If this is the case, there is the problem. Bad news, Diane. If this is the case, the solution is to remove the newly applied coating, clean, prep, prime and paint. Any coating applied over a "tacky" finish will probably not improve the situation. Check your local paint dealer for his suggestions. Take one of the cabinet doors with you for reference.
