Primer lifting off the spackling.

share

Used Siko spackling in nail holes on wood planter box, then primed w/100% acrylic primer. It’s all lifting off surface where spackling was used.

1. Should I have primed wood first?
2. Could it be lifting because spackle didn’t cure?
3. How long should one usually let spackle cure?

  1. I am unclear as to if the spackling is lifting off the substrate or is the primer lifting off the spackling.

I will try to answer either situation.

First, there are better products for wood patching than spackling. If the area is larger than say 1 inch by 1 inch, you might should try a wood patch or putty material. Elmer's makes a good one.

If the primer is turning loose from the spackling, then I would suggest the primer has an adhesion problem and I would not have an answer to that.
