Can I prime the wall with semi gloss if I am gonna paint it with semi gloss paint? I was told that I would have to use flat after I bought it and had it colored to match.

To prime the wall you should use a primer. Coloring the primer will not be necessary if you are intending to apply two coats (as recommended) of finish paint.
"Priming" with a semigloss paint will not provide a satisfactory finish depending on the surface you intend to paint.
