Spar urethane over paint?

Can you use Helmsman spar urethane over semi gloss latex paint?

Paint doesn't need any additional protection. But if you want a clear coat go with something flexible and designed to stick to latex paint – acrylic urethane.

Yes but why? If you are looking for water proof protection… then just use an exterior grade paint in the first place, even for interior application!

Besides applying the varnish over paint will give it a slight faint orange tone hue color…
