In the past I’ve stenciled over exterior latex deck on my front porch. The stenciling looked great, and lasted well enough, but the latex painted base chipped & peeled during the winters. Last fall I used an alkyd polyurethane porch paint. It has wintered great with no peeling. I’d like to try to stencil it now, but am wondering if there’s any kind of paint that would actually adhere without messing up the base.

Contrary to other beliefs… any oil or latex or spray enamel will stick to the alkyd base…
Use a can of spray paint for the best stick. Don't brush on regular latex paint, it will peel.
