1. Light and dark walls can work with oak trim, it depends what feel you want from the room. Light is definitely the easiest option to pull off. You will have to use samplers but I would try something like a light blue-grey first. You certainly need to avoid reds, black and brilliant white.

2. In my opinion, oak usually looks better with light colors. I would suggest that you use a light coffee brown to paint the walls. You can make one wall a darker brown than the other walls. Make sure the central wall is painted darker than the rest of your other walls. This new trend in painting helps make the room look larger.
