What color should we stain our barn in Maine?

We painted our house barn red and now we have built a new barn that is not too far away from the house. What color would you stain the barn?

  1. For consistency I would stain it the same type of red. Plus, red is a traditional color for a barn. Use a solid color acrylic stain for a painted look. If you want a more transparent look then you will have to choose from the manufactures colors. The color depends on the brand, but maybe there is something in the same family.

  3. You are probably right. A solid color stain is a better choice. It will last longer, twice as long, when compared to a semi-transparent stain. Benjamin Moore makes a good solid stain, it is a good choice.

  5. Thanks for your reply on using a solid stain on our barn. I like the idea, my only problem is that we used a solid "Red Barn" stain from Benjamin Moore and I'm afraid that if I use a transparent stain, or another shade of a solid stain, the barn will turn PINK! What are your thoughts? Thanks!
