What is the best paint to use around a shower?

My husband and I are building our first home and in every apartment we have lived in the paint around the shower/bathtub has always “bubbled” and peeled due to water damage. How do we avoid this in our brand new home?

  1. The best paint for this area and the entire bathroom is a water based 2 part epoxy. It will resist water damage and is tough as nails.

Avoiding the damage is a good option. This consists of ventilating the high humidity during and after showering. A quality 100% acrylic semi-gloss paint will work very well with a little ventilation and require very little maintenance.
